What is the purpose of this article?

To show the SME sensor electronic enclosure (housing) configuration variants.


Rheonics sensor electronics (SME) operates the sensor probe to output relevant process data, such as inline viscosity, density and temperature [1]. It also enables the use of mathematical models to output calculations, concentration models and compensated or scaled values, and integrates the sensor with industrial communication protocols such as 4–20 mA, Modbus, HART, EtherNet/IP and PROFINET.

The SME can be configured by its housing protection or material, so it suits the installation environment as shown next.

In the SME order code, the housing variant is E1 for the SME-TRD, E2 for the SME-TR, E3 for the SME-DRM and E4 for the SME-BOX. The option SS selects the stainless steel housing, available for E1 and E2 only.

The SME-DRM mounts on a DIN rail inside a cabinet (IP20, 0.2 kg). The SME-TR and SME-TRD come in aluminium (1.7 kg) or stainless steel, all rated IP66 / IP68 (1 m), NEMA 4X; the SME-TRD adds a display.
