The purpose of this article is to explain which hardware and configuration are essential for a successful WirelessHART implementation.

1. When I order the sensor, have I already purchased WirelessHART?

No, you will need to order the WirelessHART communication protocol before the sensor is shipped.
To order the WirelessHART communication protocol, remember to check the C10-WirelessHART option in the RFQ page.

WirelessHART is available on all Rheonics standard viscometers and density meters that use SME electronics. The video below shows the steps to add WirelessHART to the device configuration.

2. Can I order WirelessHART after a sensor is shipped?

Yes, communication protocols like WirelessHART can be ordered later. Contact Rheonics sales to order or go to our Order page https://rheonics.com/request-for-quotation/

4. Benefits

The "Hidden" Savings: Total Installed Cost (TIC)

This is where WirelessHART wins. In 2026, labor and material costs for wired infrastructure (conduit, cable trays, and engineering) have continued to climb.

  • Wired Installation: Can cost $60 to $120 per foot to install. If your device is 200 feet from the control room, you’re looking at $12,000+ just in "getting there."
  • WirelessHART Installation: You bolt it to the pipe and turn it on. The "installation cost" is essentially just the labor for the technician to commission the device in the software.

Pro Tip:
WirelessHART is a "Mesh" network. This means the more devices you buy, the stronger and more redundant the network becomes. If you only buy one device, its signal might be weak. If you buy ten, they act as repeaters for each other.
